Concealer is an absolute must for me and has been since I was in my teens. I now use my concealer most often for my dark circles but in early years I had more acne that I needed help keeping unwraps. Since I am wearing my make-up for typically 6-19 hours a day it is really important to me that I am putting safe organic high-quality products on my skin. In this article I am sharing with you a list of the best natural and organic concealers for dark circles that have great ratings, company details, and product details.

A note on organic beauty products; unfortunately finding products that use only organic ingredients is extremely unlikely due to the fact almost every brand will use some kind of lab made material that cannot be labeled organic. For me personally it is more important that my products use safe, non-toxic ingredients than all organic ingredients. On this list I focused on the best natural concealers that use organic ingredients and label themselves as organic. I did cross check all products with ewg.org and skincarisma.com to verify they were indeed non-toxic.

What is the best organic concealer for dark circles?

Their packaging is recyclable and they are making huge strides in using less plastic and new plastic in their products.

How is concealer used?

Concealer is essentially like a foundation on steroids, it is hyper-pigmented to provide heavy duty coverage for problem areas of the skin. It can help correct uneven skin tone, skin scarring, dark circles, dark spots, age spots, and act as a highlighter when contouring your face.

Concealer can be used in a variety of ways. For this article we focused on the eye area and specifically the dark circles or area under the eye. Each of these concealers can be considered an eye concealer.

Concealer can also be used all over the face if needed. It can be used to conceal any kind of marks, discolorations or other skin issues on the face or body. A little concealer goes a long way so the small amount you receive should last a long time if used correctly.

Almost all concealers are cream concealer or considered creamy concealer because of the nature of what they are used for. There is also liquid concealer which is so similar to cream I’m not sure it’s worth the difference unless you’re a beauty guru.

Why do you list more than one concealer option?

I like to give my readers options to choose what works best for them. I cover many options so you can choose the best concealers for you skin. Some people have sensitive skin that requires more gentle ingredients than other skin types. Others may have dry skin or oily skin that needs specific ingredients for their skin.

I also included multiple companies because some had a limited shade range that may not be the perfect match for everyone. Along with shade, the finish can be a big factor, if you’re layering you may want a matte finish versus a natural finish if you’re putting just the concealer on.

We are also all looking for different coverage options and finishes. I have young children who are terrible sleepers so light coverage is not for me, I need full-coverage concealer to avoid looking like a I’ve pulled an all-nighter for the last 2345 nights.

What is wrong with traditional concealers?

Traditional concealers often contain synthetic chemicals that can cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, or even health issues. Some of the most common ingredients in conventional concealers that cause the most concern are, parabens, fragrances, formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, phthalates, and sulfates.

Parabens are preservatives that may mimic estrogen and disrupt hormone balance.

Synthetic fragrances can trigger allergies or respiratory issues for some.

Formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation.

Phthalates have been linked to reproductive and developmental issues in animal studies.

Sulfates are surfactants often used to create lather or foam in cosmetics. They can actually build up in your body with long-term use which is terrifying!

Talc is a mineral that is commonly used as an absorbent in cosmetics, but it has been linked to respiratory issues and cancer when inhaled over a long period, which is obviously concerning with make-up that you’re putting very close to your mouth.

Let me know which concealer you decided to try or if you have a favorite that isn’t on this list! If you are looking for other non-toxic products be sure to check out my other posts!

The Best Organic Liquid Chlorophyll on the Market Today https://thekindanaturalmom.com/the-best-organic-liquid-chlorophyll-on-the-market-today/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-best-organic-liquid-chlorophyll-on-the-market-today Fri, 17 Feb 2023 18:36:19 +0000 https://thekindanaturalmom.com/?p=1799 Pouring the best organic liquid chlorophyll into a water glass

What is liquid chlorophyll?

Liquid chlorophyll, is a natural green pigment found in the chloroplasts of plants, that play an essential role in photosynthesis. The liquid form of chlorophyll used for consumption is usually extracted from leafy greens such as spinach, parsley and alfalfa.

The extraction procedure usually involves pulverizing the plant matter and mixing it with a solvent, like ethanol, to draw out the chlorophyll. Once extracted, the liquid is purified and concentrated for use as a dietary supplement or other purposes. Many people refer to liquid chlorophyll as the building block of life because of the high amounts of antioxidants. It’s also touted as a green superfood that has no natural fat.

What is liquid chlorophyll used for?

  • -Fight bad breath
  • -Reduce body odors
  • -Boost immune function
  • -Reduce free radicals in the body
  • -Improve gut health
  • -Support in detoxification
  • -Increase blood health
  • -Wound healing
  • -Overall skin health
  • -Increase energy levels

What is the science behind liquid chlorophyll?

science lab with green liquids

Liquid chlorophyll has a range of uses, from being taken as a dietary supplement for general well-being to treat bad breath by freshening it naturally. Some people even apply it topically as a skin healer and deodorant. It is also thought to alleviate inflammation and aid detoxification.

There are a few studies on the benefits of liquid chlorophyll consumption but overall scientific data is very limited. The studies I found are detailed here if you’d like to seek more information. A 2013 study from the Journal of Medicinal Food found it had anti-inflammatory effects. Another study in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry in 2014 also found it had strong antioxidant activity.

In 2018 the Journal of Nutrition found chlorophyllin to be effective in reducing a toxic compound in the blood of humans and animals. The Journal of Wound care conducted a study in 2017 that found a chlorophyll ointment promoted wound healing in rats.

Chlorophyll can also be used to support the immune system and its overall function. Chlorophyll is an amazing and powerful antioxidant that could potentially guard cells from free radical harm, which can lead to long-term inflammation and sickness. Also, some research suggests that chlorophyll may give a boost to the immune system by triggering the creation of white blood cells and increasing the potency of natural killer cells, which help fight off disease and cancer.

There are also several studies showing that liquid chlorophyll was highly successful in removing heavy metals from water sources. These studies haven’t been proven in the human body but many holistic healthcare professionals believe it has the same ability to act as a heavy metal detox for the body.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Liquid Chlorophyll

The FDA has not endorsed liquid chlorophyll as a treatment or preventive measure for any medical condition; however, they have classified it as GRAS, which is recognized as safe for common use in food or other products. You should of course always consult a certified medical professional before implementing any advice you found on the internet. The lack of endorsement from the FDA shouldn’t be cause for concern as they rarely monitor products they consider to be an herbal supplement.

How do you use or take liquid chlorophyll?

There are a variety of ways to take liquid chlorophyll to meet whatever your needs are. Chlorophyll water is one of the most popular methods. To make this you simply mix it into a glass of water, most manufactures have directions on how to do this for their specific product. Other popular methods are simply taking it as a shot, or just dropping the drops directly into your mouth.

Depending on what you are trying to achieve you can take it daily, weekly or even less frequently. Some people take it daily for overall health and wellness benefits. Other people choose to take it for a specific amount of time to aid in the body’s natural detoxification processes.

Many recommend taking it on an empty stomach without anything else mixed with it to achieve maximum benefits.  The empty stomach theory doesn’t have a lot of merit so if that isn’t your preference I wouldn’t worry. There is also a large subsect of people who prefer to take it with a smooth or green juice of some kind to mask some of the earthy taste. I personally prefer to put it in a green smoothie because I find the taste of a shot a bit too intense.

You’ll of course want to again follow the recommendations of a certified healthcare professional and the manufacturer’s recommendations on the best way consume their product.

Is liquid chlorophyll safe for children?

No liquid chlorophyll is not safe for children. Many online sources, non-medical professionals, state that it could be very beneficial for children but the fact is there are no medical studies on the effects of chlorophyll supplementation for children. Kids are still developing and the benefits of any kind of chlorophyll supplementation do not outweigh the unknown risks. As with all supplements its of course important to keep them out of reach of children.

What if I’m not sure I am ready to begin liquid chlorophyll supplementation?

I am extra cautious about supplements I take and prefer to obtain my nutrition from food sources when possible. The following foods are naturally high in chlorophyll, adding these foods to your existing diet and could be a good place to start.

  • Parsley
  • Spinach
  • Watercress
  • Kale
  • Wheatgrass
  • Arugula
  • Swiss chard
  • Collard greens
  • Mustard greens
  • Dandelion greens

Other foods like broccoli, green beans, and zucchini also contain chlorophyll, as well as some fruits like apples and kiwi.

Can I make my own liquid chlorophyll?

Yes you can totally make your own liquid chlorophyll at home by juicing some of the greens listed above. Note that this will be different from an actual chlorophyll supplement you buy as those companies specifically extract just the chlorophyll from foods. Juicing is still beneficial but won’t be a straight chlorophyll just a higher concentration than eating the entire vegetable.

Are there negative side effects to liquid chlorophyll supplementation?

Yes there can be. Liquid chlorophyll is usually safe when taken as instructed, and negative side effects are rare. However, mild side effects may occur such as: digestive issues like diarrhea, cramps or nausea; allergic reactions like itching, swelling or shortness of breath; green coloring of urine and/or feces, which is harmless but might be concerning; and photosensitivity, making skin more vulnerable to sunlight and causing irritation or sunburn.

Additionally, please note that liquid chlorophyll can interfere with certain medications, like blood thinners, and may not be suitable for those with certain medical conditions.

What is the best organic liquid chlorophyll supplement brand on the market?

World Organics Liquid Chlorophyll

World Organic’s Liquid Chlorophyll is the best liquid chlorophyll on the market. This product has over 3300 5 star ratings on Amazon. The chlorophyll is extracted from organic high quality alfalfa leaves and preservative free.

World organic liquid chlorophyll appears to be one of the organic liquid chlorophyll products on the market. There are many liquid chlorophyll products but after extensive research almost no others are organic. I’ve listed a few other liquid chlorophyll products that are not organic but have exceptionally high standards for their products, even more in my opinion than the world organic’s brand.

Benevolent Nourishment

Benevolent Nourishment Liquid Chlorophyll is produced according to GMP (good manufacturing practice) standards which ensures products are manufactured consistently to high quality standards. They also test their products in accordance with GMP standards and their own high quality standards which gives an extra layer of protection for the buyer.

Mary Ruth Organics

Mary Ruth Organics was founded in 2014 and makes a wide variety of supplements including a Vegan Liquid Chlorophyll. This product is testing by a third party lab for quality and safety before launching to the market. It is non-GMO and uses organic fillers such as organic peppermint for flavor and organic vegetable glycerin. This product has over 9000 5 star reviews on Amazon with many people touting the health benefits they have experienced after adding this product to their routine.

Buried Treasure Liquid Chlorophyll

Buried treasure is owned by Life Line Foods company who has been manufacturing health foods since 1969. Buried treasure states they source all products thoroughly from reliable companies world wide to create their high quality products. They also lab test and certify all their products in the USA in FDA and GMP compliant lab. While some of their products appear organic it does not appear the Chlorophyll is but it is Non-GMO. They also have over 2800 5 star reviews on Amazon.

Horabaach Liquid Chlorophyll

Horbaach liquid chlorophyl drops

Horabaach is a large scale supplement manufacturing company dating back to 1971. They state they carefully source products and ensure they provide the highest quality products at affordable costs to their customers. They have multiple certifications regarding their lab environment and testing standards. They also state they have testing at every stage of their product which guarantees quality and purity. They have over 1600 5 star reviews on amazon but it is noted that many reviewers found the taste to be particularly unpleasant.

New Age Chlorophyll Liquid Drops

New Age is a brand I’m a bit on the fence about. They do list some of their certifications and standards but do not go into detail about their labs, sourcing or company founding. They are GMP certified but do not mention Non-GMO or organic processes. They have over 4200 5 star reviews from Amazon but multiple people mentioned there is some grain towards the end of the bottom that doesn’t mix into their liquids all the way when consuming.

While researching liquid chlorophyll supplements to recommend there were several more brands on Amazon that were not high-quality enough to recommend. I won’t call any out here but I urge you to look into the companies that you buy from. Look for companies that seek out certifications for their labs and products. There are several companies that are only on amazon, don’t list any certifications and it’s unclear when or how they began, these are companies I personally would be wary to buy from.

What is Manuka Honey?

Authentic Manuka honey is the powerhouse superstar of honey. Manuka honey is a type of honey bees produce when they pollinate a the Manuka bush. The manuka bush or leptospermum scoparium bush, is a tree/bush that grows exclusively in New Zealand and Australia and is what bees use to produce the Manuka honey. This specific type of honey has been found to have many health benefits and healing properties for numerous ailments.

How is it different from regular honey?

Manuka honey has a compound called methylglyoxal (MGO) that has tremendous antibacterial properties. These antibacterial compounds are not found in other types of honey which is what gives manuka honey its superpowers. Higher MGO levels mean greater healing abilities for the honey. When the MGO levels reach a certain concentration the honey is considered the highest quality and medical grade which can then be used to treat severe skin wounds or burns.

What are the health benefits of Manuka honey?

First and foremost, I am not a medical professional so always consult one before following any advice found on the internet. I am highly skilled at research and have obtained a master’s degree, which required extensive research, so those skills are what I am using here. Manuka honey is considered a powerful antibacterial treatment and has medical studies to back its antibacterial abilities and use for medicinal purposes. This study from the 2018 AIMS Microbiology medical journal states there are high levels of antibacterial activity in manuka honey and it can be safely used as a natural antibiotic. They go on to state that it hasn’t been found to have antibiotic resistance like traditional antibiotics and should be studied more for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant microorganisms. There are many more studies in medical journals touting the medicinal properties of genuine Manuka honey. Now you may be thinking ok but what specifically are we talking about, so here is a list of specific health issues manuka honey could help.

  • Wound treatment and wound healing
  • Oral health; can inhibit bacterial growth in the mouth
  • Calm a sore throat
  • Stomach ulcers
  • Irritable bowel syndrome and other digestive issues
  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Eye Infections
  • Immune system support
  • Acid reflux (this is a newer finding and still needs more evidence before its fully supported by the medical community)

What are the different types of Manuka honey?

Manuka honey is typically categorized through the MGO levels because this information is needed depending on what you’ll be utilizing it for. The higher the MGO the more antibacterial components that specific Manuka honey contains. Very high MGO levels are considered appropriate for medicinal purposes such as the wound healing process or natural antibiotic treatment. Lower MGO levels are considered still highly beneficial for daily use to support overall health. There is also something called the unique manuka factor (UMF) that measures the MGO, DHA, and leptosprein in the honey and rates it based on those levels. To be considered therapeutic or medical grade it needs a UMF rating of at least +10. I personally would not be too concerned with the UMF certification rating because the medical community and medical studies have been based primarily on MGO rating; the UMF rating is a new system and not medically supported as of yet. The UMF rating does add an additional layer of assurance for testing and quality but some companies have equally high-quality products but choose not to spend large amounts of money on the UMF certification for their products.

Ok so before we get into the list of the best Manuka honey brands I want to say a few things regarding the work that went into this list. I looked through every brand myself and looked through each company’s about section, certifications, FAQs, and general information available. and certifications. I was literally dreaming about Manuka honey by the time I finished, funny but not a joke haha! I did leave a few popular companies off the list because I did not feel they were producing a quality product or being transparent about their product components. The companies on this list mostly ship worldwide but my focus was to ensure each of these companies shipped to the United States because that is where I am located. I did find a number of high-quality brands that only shipped within New Zealand, therefore they were not added to this list but their absence is not because of quality.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I could get a small commission when you buy a product but it costs you nothing! Thank you for your support.

1. Manukora

Manukora is sourced from New Zealand and has been in the manukora business since 1998. They have high-quality manuka honey with an MGO rating of 200+ all the way to 1123+. I love that this company focuses a lot on sustainability. They package their product in 100% recycled materials, compost, and work towards reforestation and water conservation.

2.  PRI Manuka Honey

PRI is a company that partners with beekeepers to source their honey from both New Zealand and Australia. 3. Comvita

Comvita has been around since 1974 and is really focused on creating the highest quality product. They are a smaller company that sources their own products and even has a link to their individual beekeepers on their page. They do take part in the UMF ratings if you’re interested in that extra rating system. They offer manuka honey with an MGO of 50+ to 829+.

4. Wedderspoon

Wedderspoon Manuka Honey
Wedderspoon Manuka Honey Jar

Wedderspoon has a wide variety of manuka products that are all sourced from New Zealand. They partner with several non-profits and have been featured in a lot of popular media sources. They do not list the MGO rating on any of their products and seem to be geared more towards general consumption versus healing benefits.

5. Manuka Health

Manuka Health Honey Jar

Manuka Health started as a small business in a small town in New Zealand, where they are still based today. They house their own bees and employ their own workers to keep everything in-house. On their website, they state they were pioneers of the MGO testing and discovery. They have extensive endorsements including non-GMO, UMF rating system, halal certifications, and many more. They focus on regenerative practices for the environment and sustainability as well. Their manuka honey has an MGO range of 263+ to 700+. Manuka health is the real deal and is focused on all the right aspects of a responsible, ethical business in today’s world.

6. Wild Cape Honey

Jar of WildCape Honey
Jar of WildCape Honey

Wildcape manuka honey has been around for 40 years and one factor that makes them highly unique is that only harvest from the east cape region only making them a single source honey. They work with 15 full-time beekeepers and maintain close relationships with them making them closer to a small business than some of the other larger cooperations on this list. They have numerous professional certifications including the UMF certification for their honey. Their products range from MGO 263+ to MGO 829+.

7. New Zealand Honey Company

New Zealand Honey Company Manuka Honey Jar
New Zealand Honey Company Manuka Honey Jar

The New Zealand honey company harvests their raw Manuka honey from all over New Zealand and has a tracking system that can track each bottle back to the exact hive it was extracted from. They have numerous professional certifications including the UMF certification and non-GMO verified as well. They package their products in 95% recycled materials making them very eco-friendly. My favorite part of this company is their transparency, they share the labs they get their products tested through, the exact materials in their packaging, and all their certifications from their various organizations.

8. Yobees Honey

Yobees Manuka Honey Jar
Yobees Manuka Honey Jar

Yobees was founded in 2013 and is a small family-owned business. They do not detail their certifications, testing process, or values on their page but appear to be UMF certified as it does appear on their bottles. They state their honey is pure New Zealand Manuka honey. Their products are labeled UMF 8+ to UMF 20+. I love that they are family owned but would prefer some more transparency on the work that goes into their products.

9. Happy Valley Manuka Honey

Happy Vallery Manuka Honey Jar
Happy Vallery Manuka Honey Jar

Happy Manuka has been in the commercial business realm since 1990 after 30+ years of personal beekeeping. They have numerous professional certifications including the UMF certification but do not detail all the specifics. They also state they regularly test their product and soil for purity and quality. Their honey is raw, unfiltered, and organic to offer the highest outstanding nutritional value. This is a brand that produces small-batch honey and only creates each batch from one region never mixing kinds of honey which creates a monofloral Manuka honey, meaning the bees use just one plant to pollinate and make their honey. They state that this practice as well as the placement of hives and care creates a superior bold flavor. They have numerous certifications and assurances to support their superior product claims. They sell honey with an MGO rating of 100+ to 263+ with a price range of $23.99 to $32.99.

21. Puriti

They produce everything in New Zealand, as well as test and ship their products from there. They truly believe in the medicinal uses of their products they offer and that reflects in their high range of MGO ratings. Their products ranged from MGO 100+ to 1722+ which is the second-highest rating in any of the brands. Their prices range from $19.99 to $1499.00.

Easy All Natural 3 Ingredient Deodorant https://thekindanaturalmom.com/easy-all-natural-3-ingredient-deodorant/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=easy-all-natural-3-ingredient-deodorant Tue, 07 Jun 2022 15:31:45 +0000 https://thekindanaturalmom.com/?p=396
DYI All Natural Deodorant

This recipe is super easy and uses ingredients you probably already have in your home! Several studies have found that traditional deodorant contains often toxic ingredients that can be harmful to your health. One specific study found that chemicals from deodorant have been found to remain in breast tissue! Even with many studies stating data is inconclusive I would rather be on the safe side and make my own all natural, safe, and effective deodorant. It’s also super cheap to make and lasts a long time!

Each ingredient plays a vital role so leaving one out isn’t recommended.

The ingredients

Ingredients for deodorant

Coconut oil is your base ingredient here and necessary for the creamy smooth texture this deodorant has. Coconut oil fights bacteria, moisturizes skin and allows the other ingredients to mix together evenly.

Baking soda is a common household ingredient and used in this recipe to help with odor protection when you sweat. Baking soda doesn’t irritate my skin at all but some people can be sensitive to it so if that’s you, reduce the amount you use in the recipe by half and see how you do with that amount. I use the same stuff I cook with but there are specialty brands marketed to skin specifically you could look into if you’re interested in that!

Arrowroot powder is the last ingredient that makes this recipe work. It acts as a moisture absorber and another odor blocker. Obviously, we sweat in our arm pits and using something that will help reduce the amount of wetness and pull it away from our skin is helpful.

Alternative ingredients

There is some possibility to use other ingredients, but I will post some alternative recipes another day! Corn starch can be used in place of arrow root powder and I’ve heard good things about Tapioca starch as another alternative but have not personally used that one!

I personally like to add essential oils to my mix to give it a nice fragrance, but this is not necessary and does not alter the effectiveness of the end product! With any essential oils be sure you are diluting correctly and understanding what can go on your skin and what can’t, even though they are “all-natural” they can still cause issues and adverse reactions.

I melt my coconut oil in a saucepan on the stove but you can absolutely melt it in the microwave or even leave it in a warm place to liquify so you can mix in your powders!

How to store this?

Store this product in a glass container and use as needed. I have found that I do sometimes need to apply this more than one time in a day depending on how often I am sweating. This should keep in at room temperature for several months.

What if it irritates my skin?

If you make this and use for a few days and realize it isn’t agreeing with your skin, then you can remelt the mixture and add more coconut oil and arrow root powder to help dilute out the baking soda.

How do I apply this?

The easiest way to apply is to dip your fingers in and just apply it with your hands/fingers. If that isn’t what you want to do you can use a beauty sponge to dip and apply that way so you don’t get any on your hands. You can also pour your melted product into an old deodorant tube and apply that way. The tube method you do need to be careful with storage though as that would need to remain a solid to avoid leaks. I would store it in the fridge or another always cool location to ensure it stays solid.

If making your own deodorant is your vibe, no worries I have a list of the best ones that you can buy from small businesses and big box stores alike! Check it out here!

There are a ton of dry shampoos on the market and I have tried a ton of them! I have tried really toxic brands and other brands that are marketed at being “more natural” versions. I think many of them that state that are mostly greenwashed. The recent benzene scares is also a real concerns since thats what powers those dry shampoos sprays! This is a super simple 3 ingredient recipe that is non-toxic, all natural, safe and effective. It uses products you probably already have in your house and is totally customizable!

The first ingredient is corn starch. This is used mostly in cooking recipes to help make things thicker. It is extracted from corn and does not have any chemicals or additives in it! You can use organic or regular, organic is probably a better bet for non-toxic purposes but all I had was regular so thats what I used for this recipe. I went ahead and linked all the products I used in this post so it does contain affiliate links for each linked product!

Organic Corn Starch

The next ingredient is not actually necessary but since I have darker hair I opted to add it. Coffee grounds. Coffee has actually been shown in a few studies to stimulate hair growth at the follicle, which is just a little added benefit here. I actually prefer to use cocoa powder but did not have that so I opted for coffee, which has that potential to boost hair growth so its a win-win. I will note that I absolutely did not ground the coffee fine enough, if you opt for coffee I think it works fairly well but for sure grind it very very fine!

Organic Coffee

The last ingredient is where you can really make this product specific to you. Essential Oils! It can also be skipped but takes this from basic boring cornstarch to a little nicer, smell good “product.” You can use any high quality essential oil, but my favorites are from Plant Therapy. They are organic, a fairly small business and their customer service is on point! I went with peppermint for my dry shampoo because it is supposed to help with dry skin and flaking. Right now where I’m at it’s winter and my natural hair routine only calls for a once a week wash so my scalp is struggling right now. Any extra help I can get I’m taking. If I didn’t use peppermint I would probably use rosemary, because it helps promote hair growth or lavender because its my favorite scent!

Essential Oils by Plant Therapy

Ok onto how to actually do the thing!

Check out my before and after! My hair gets oily after a few days and it always amazes me how much the color changes when I use this! I still needed to add a little more to the back side of my head but you can see the massive difference and once you really work it in it looks very natural.

Before and After DIY Dry Shampoo

Let me know in the comments how this went for you and what scent you chose! If you are looking for more non-toxic beauty related items check out this post of my top easy to find non-toxic products!

All-natural deodorant is something I think is really important. The concern for me is that this is something we are putting on daily and in a sensitive area where our glands are more likely to be open from heat and sweat. Ok I honestly don’t know about the glands thing cause I’m not a doctor but that’s how it works in my mind. Also with nursing if it is soaking into my skin its very close to my Mama milk so I’m not down with that. After reading this article from Penn Medicine there is a enough doubt and concern about ingredients in deodorant from the medical community that I want to avoid those ingredients. They actually mention that a study showed aluminum can accumulate in the breast tissue, like what, no thanks!

I have truly tried what feels like a billion brands. To be honest there is something about a lot of natural deodorants that does not work for my skin and I’m not sure what it is but it’s taken me a while to find ones that I love and that work great for me. I want to start by recommending the brands I have tried and that work best for me. Then I’ll go over the brands I’ve tried that have really great reviews but didn’t work well for me. Lastly I’ll give the dish on some brands I have tried but have heard really great things about!

A note on natural deodorant that you may not be expecting. Firstly they do not contain aluminum so there is no sweat protection. They purely protect against smell so if you are a nervous sweater (hello, its me!) that is an adjustment. There can also be a “detox” period when you stop using your toxic deodorant. This “detox” period can result in you smelling super stinky and seeming like things are getting worse. I honestly don’t know the science behind it but it happened with me and I’ve heard of it happening to others as well.

Ok onto the reviews!

Arm and Hammer Essentials

Ya’ll I honestly think this is the GOAT (greatest of all time) for natural deodorant. It has a rating of 2 on the EWG which is pretty good! It is really easy to find locally in Walmart, Target, Walgreens and other local big box stores. It is super gentle on my skin, I’ve never had a rash or irritation from it. It lasts all day with one application as well. The price is also AMAZING! Here is a 4 pack on amazon for $13.89 which puts each one at $3.50. It’s even cheaper when I find it in stores locally!

Earthely Wellness

This is a small business that focuses on highly quality, non-toxic ingredients. They have a lot of different products that they offer and several different deodorants to choose from. I love that they are really intentional about the ingredients that they use and are able to state the purpose each one has. They also use essential oils to give their products they great scents instead of toxic synthetic fragrance. Their price for deodorants is around $10 a tube but you can get trial sizes for around $3 which is awesome if you are wanting to see if the product will be a good fit for you! Last thing to love about this brand is that it was created by a Mom wanting better products for her baby. She shares her research, knowledge and several recipes on her site as well! Win-win-win!

Primally Pure

This is another amazing small business. They have a whole line full of of all natural, safe and non-toxic products. This is another strong Mom who created a company wanting better alternatives for a healthier lifestyle. She has 7 different scented deodorants to choose from and lists the benefits of the ingredients in them on the purchase site as well. Each product has at least 500 plus reviews averaging 4.5 stars! A lot of people also mention specifically that precious natural deodorants gave them skin irritation but this one didn’t! This is absolutely a luxury brand so the prices are a bit higher than others mentioned here but again you are supporting a family business and not a corporate giant! Regular size sticks range from $20 to $22. You can grab a 10% discount by signing up for their email list and another shipping discount when you subscribe for regular shipments!

Primal Life

This is yet another small business created by another amazing Mom (who runs the world, GIRLS). She has a medical background and created this when on a mission to find better products to use with herself and her family. Another thing to love is that this is an eco-minded company who works to use less plastic packaging and reduce their footprint! This is a truly non-toxic product with clean ingredients no, yucky fragrance and nice scents. Each different deodorant has hundreds of reviews and averaging 4.5 stars, so people love it and love that it works! The price is around $16 for a regular size tube and it supports a family and is good for the environment so a win-win!

Way of Will

This is a deodorant that again has great reviews and is very eco-friendly. It comes as a spray and once dry doesn’t leave anything but maximum odor protection behind! They have several different scents and come in a non-toxic glass container. Lavender is my go to scent for basically everything but they also have lemon, peppermint, orange, and a tea tree oil for extra bacteria killing protection! You get 4 oz which is a great size for around $10.

Native

This is a really popular brand and it has some amazing reviews. It smells amazing and goes on super smooth. The ingredients are not the cleanest but when you compare it to traditional deodorant its much better! The unscented one has a 2 on EWG because it doesn’t have that fragrance that can hide really nasty toxic ingredients. This brand is also available a lot of local department stores which is nice when you run out on short notice or forget to reorder. The price is quite high though at around $11 for a normal sized tube. They also have a plastic free option which is good for you and good for the environment! I will say this is also one that caused some minor irritation on my skin so I wasn’t able to use it in the long run. I didn’t try that unscented brand that was labeled for sensitive skin so that could be a better option if you are prone to skin irritation which I very much am.

Schmidts

This is another brand that is very popular and very easy to find in local stores. They have many different scents and have all natural fragrance instead of synthetic chemical ones. They have a great EWG score of 1 thanks to their clean ingredients and they work really well for odor protection. I found them to work better than Native for odor protection for me and the scent was fairly strong which I enjoyed. In the long run this brand did give my skin irritation so I was unable to use it for more than a few weeks but the 26 thousand reviews averaging 4 stars on Amazon tell me it works for a lot of people. They are priced fairly close to Schmidt’s at around $10 a stick.

Hippy Pits

Hippy Pits is an awesome product! It was weird to get used to at first because it comes in a tub and you put it on with your fingers but I found it to be super gentle and effective. I did have to put it on a few times on days where I was sweating a lot but I felt that it worked very well and it never irritated my skin! The price is around $9 for a tub that lasts a few weeks so it did feel on the pricier side. They run specials all the time though where you can by 3 and 1 free or something similar.

Booda Butter

This is another small business and I love that I know every ingredient that put in their products. Their deodorant has just 5 ingredients and is backed by a 100% money back guarantee. They are working to be available in stores nation wide. This is another one that comes in a jar and you get a bit on your finger and apply it that way. It has great reviews from the almost 100 reviews on their website and comes with vegan, as well as organic certifications. The price is around $8 for a jar that is supposed to last you a few months! The down side is that it is unscented but that can be a blessing for sensitive skin!

As you can see there are a lot of brands that offer great non-toxic products! I do want to mention that while researching this post and in my personal experience I have be tricked into thinking a product was non-toxic with safe ingredients and that wasn’t necessarily the case. Lush was a huge one that I thought was all natural safe and it turns out they use synthetic fragrances on the regular in their products. Another brand, Hey Human markets it self as a safe alternative and free of lots of harmful ingredients but still has ingredients that are known to cause issues. I highly recommend you carefully read labels and double check that products are truly non-toxic and not just greenwashing you!

For more info on greenwashing check out this blog post!

Be sure to let me know which ones you tried and loved in the comments! Is there a favorite of yours I missed? Let me know!

It can be hard to find the time to source, research and order all of your clean, non-toxic beauty items! Most stores are filled with items full of harmful chemicals and very few clean options to choose from.

Sometimes I run out of something and need to quickly grab a replacement or I travel and forget an essential product! Knowing which big brands are usually clean helps but you’ll be surprised that some typically “toxic” brands have cleaner options too! Here is my list of the top affordable, easy to find, go-to noon-toxic beauty items!

Best Brand for All Products

Burt’s bees is easily the best brand in big box stores for clean beauty. Almost every item them make has a great ewg.org score for clean, non-toxic beauty! Even better their products are very affordable and even come in gift sets if you want to spread the clean beauty joy! My go to item from Burt’s is their chapstick!

Go-to Cleanser

LaRoche-Posay has a cleanser that is fairly easy to find! I googled and found it in-stock at my local Target, Walgreens and Ulta! They have a hydrating version for dry skin and a purifying version for oily skin! Great reviews and a good score on ewg.org makes this a go-to choice for easy to find cleansing.

Best Products for Sensitive, Eczema prone skin

Cerave has a few cleansers and moisturizers that are safe, non-toxic choices. I used their cleanser on the regular when I first got diagnosed with eczema. My dermatologist recommended them and they are very easy to find basically everywhere! Not all of their products are non-toxic though so be sure to check with the ewg.org to determine which ones are safe.

Best Non-toxic Kids Find

The best affordable kids brand I’ve found has to be Hello Bello! Kristin Bell and Dax Shepard started this brand when they had kiddos because of the lack of quality, affordable products. It’s awesome, ewg certified and available at Walmart!

Simple Hair Care

Shea Moisture is one of my favorite hair care brands that is affordable and easy to find! Most chain stores carry it and they have a good variety of shampoos and conditioners available! My favorite is the curly one, it works wonders on my wild child’s mane!

Clean Nail Polish

This category is a bit more tricky! It’s truly hard to find a mass produced, clean ingredient nail polish! Most if your clear top coats from a variety of brands are safe! OPI has a few lighter colors that are considered moderately safe but my favorite brand found in stores (Target) is called Piggy Paint. They don’t have a tone of colors but the quality and fact you can grab them from a big box store is huge!

Go-to Serums!

Guys!!! Serums are actually pretty easy to find from most brands and fit the bill for non-toxic beauty! I personally like to put a serum on a layer on my moisturizer for maximum benefits! I got these Olay Serums a while back on a buy one get one deal, stand alone they can be a little expensive! This deep hydration one and tone protection one I use regularly and love the boost they give my tired Mom skin these days!

What do you think of these clean beauty finds, did any surprise you? Are there others you would add? Let me know 🙂 Until next time, keep it cleanish haha!

Be sure to check out this post on all natural, non-toxic deodorant brands to add to your beauty routine!
